Post Natal Treatment
The aims of postnatal treatment in ayurveda are to improve the digestion, metabolism, Vata balance and to support lactation. Mother’s health becomes weak after the delivery due to the loss of blood and fluid. During the sutika period (The phase after delivery till the restoration of menstruation.) a special regimen is recommended for the recovery of fluids in the body. After sutika period a special diet is carefully decided based on digestive power. Lactation is promoted and mother’s milk is the only friendly milk to a new bornbaby, special herbs are used to help increase breast milk production in nursing mothers.
Post Natal Massage
Postnatal massage can be as important and beneficial as massage during pregnancy. In a normal delivery, oils such as Bala thailam or Dhanwantharam thailam are used commonly for the massage. Massage is flowed by to a warm shower for the first seven days. Water boiled with tamarind leaves or kurunthotti roots (Sida cordifolia) are used for baths.
